San Clemente celebrates Harmony Day

On Wednesday 22 March, the school community of San Clemente High School, Mayfield, joined together to celebrate Harmony Day with a very special liturgy.

Emma South March 22, 2017

A traditional welcome to country commenced the liturgy, with two students and a teacher playing the didgeridoos, while other students performed a smoking ceremony.

With over 39 cultures represented, we had a parade of students proudly carrying the flag of their nation of origin, as well as gathering them as one on our Harmony Day cake.

We also had talented musical performances from the students; firstly, our vocal group performed ‘We Are Australian’. Violet Shephard then gave us a contemporary take on ‘Waltzing Matilda’ with the inclusion of a rap verse, written and performed by one of our Year 10 students, Siale Holani.

It was a wonderful day of celebration for our students, where they were able to learn about the diversity of Australian culture and history.
