St Pius X Adamstown Feast Day

This year’s Feast Day at St Pius X High School, Adamstown, as well as celebrating the life of the Patron Pope Saint Pius X, also focussed on the theme of Caring for Creation.

The school community used the Feast Day celebrations as an opportunity to examine how we can put more environmentally sustainable practices and policies into place in order to care for our common home more authentically.

The day began with student-led liturgies for Years 7 to 10. The services were the combined effort of Year 9 Extension Religious Studies classes, Year 10 music students, the Student Representative Council and school choir. The liturgies featured a dramatic performance of The Story of Creation combined with commentary on environmental issues and what we can do to help.

There was also a market on the day with hot and cold food stalls, food trucks from Big Daddy’s Texas BBQ and Harry’s Schnitzel Joint, a BBQ, guessing and throwing games, face painting, a photo booth, futsal, a café and talent quest in the Factory Theatre. Students also busked in different locations around the market.

Among the stalls were diocesan representatives from Catholic Mission who gave students the opportunity to ask questions about the work of Catholic Mission, view a virtual reality (VR) video of projects in Uganda through VR glasses and sit-and-make-friendship bands.

Baden Ellis, the DARA Van Coordinator, also brought along the DARA Van so students to could find out more about the work DARA does in meeting the needs of those doing it tough in our local community.

The day concluded with a house competition organised by the teacher interns under the guidance of Amanda Mohr, a Student Coordinators St Pius. The activities aimed to help each house grow in their own identity and charism.

The school raised over $5000 through the Feast Day Market, which will be spilt equally and donated to four social justice causes including Catholic Mission, the DARA Van, Buy A Bale and St Pius’ World Challenge Immersion In-Country Social Justice Project.
