NAIDOC Week at St Joseph’s Gloucester

St Joseph’s Primary School, Gloucester spent the day out of uniform wearing red, black and yellow and had a fun-filled day of activities to celebrate NAIDOC Week.

Beginning their morning with an assembly, the school community took a closer look at this year’s theme and its link with the Uluru statement, “from the heart”.

Joining Gloucester for their assembly were a number of visitors from Strafford Public School, Barrington Street Preschool and other home care centres.

The students organised and ran a variety of activities for everyone to participate during the day.

Some of these included, icing biscuits, face and nail painting, bracelet making, tabloid sport activities, rock painting, creating a hand print banner and a quiet reading area where students could read books by Aboriginal illustrators and authors.

This was followed by a delicious barbeque sausage sizzle.

The school also had a visited from Uncle Jeremy Sanders, a Birpip man, who gave the Acknowledgement to Country, played the didgeridoo, taught the students some dance moves and also told a number of dreaming stories.

A big thank you to all the parents who helped out on the day.
