St Dominic’s get active

Now in its third year, St Dominic’s Centre, Mayfield held its annual Athletics Carnival last week.

Katie Philpott October 30, 2019

Our primary and secondary students had been working in PDHPE on the activities and events that were held on the day.

An excited group of Hogan house and Molloy house (named after the Dominican Sisters who founded our order in Australia) students boarded the bus and made their way to St Pius X High School in Adamstown. Students from Year 10 PASS, decked out in their blue and red, were eagerly awaiting them.

The students gave their all in track and field events, cheered on by families, staff and their houses. The day finished with a ninja course event that had our students crawling under nets, dodging balls and scaling walls.

Meanwhile back at school, our infants students were tackling obstacle courses, throwing javelins and testing fine motor skills.

This year we welcomed Year 10 Child Studies students from St Pius X who helped facilitate the carnival and of course, our infants families were out in force, singing cheers and supporting our students.

The day ended back at St Dominic’s with a sausage sizzle and awards ceremony with Molloy declared the victorious house for 2019.

The day simply would not be possible without the support from St Pius. Special mention to John McLoughlin, PDHPE co-ordinator, for the time, energy and effort he invested in the day at St Pius, and to Amanda Mohr for co-ordinating the Child Studies students.

This day is a highlight in our calendar each year and encapsulates so much about St Dominic’s spirit — tenacity, determination, always give your best, fun, community-minded and inclusive.

Well done to all involved.
