Our volunteers play a key role in the Diocese's mission

The Catholic Diocese of Maitland-Newcastle’s mission has long been “to live the joy of the Gospel and share it with the world” – and so we are incredibly grateful to our 10,000 volunteers who, in partnership with our clergy and staff, assist us to fulfil this mission by serving in the Hunter-Manning region.

That’s according to our Director of Pastoral Ministries, Teresa Brierley, who says:

“Volunteers make a tireless and valued contribution in our parishes and by supporting the work of DARA, CatholicCare, our Catholic schools, St Nicholas Early Education, the Catholic Development Fund and Pastoral Ministries,” she says.

Teresa says the Pastoral Ministries is seeking people from within the Diocese to work as volunteers in a number of roles within:

“These are real missionary disciple roles which help to bring about the reign of God,” says Teresa.

“Our Diocesan Councils fulfil a consultative, advisory, information, communication and active role in the areas of Faith Formation, Liturgy, Young People, Ecumenism and Interfaith as well as Social Justice.

“Hospital Pastoral Care Visitors provide support to the Hospital Chaplains, by connecting daily with Catholic patients and their families.  We need assistance in providing pastoral and spiritual care to such people.

“Caritas Australia is the Catholic agency for international aid and development. The members of our Caritas Diocesan Support Team in the Diocese are responsible for making real the vision of Caritas at the local level. This role involves working as part of a team to promote and support the work of Caritas, particularly through its Project Compassion and Special Appeals.”

If you would like a detailed Position Description for any of the above roles or if you would like more information before you apply for any of these roles, please contact Teresa Brierley by phoning her on 02 4979 1157 or by emailing her at Teresa.Brierley@mn.catholic.org.au.
