Expert and not so expert opinions are expressed, research findings disclosed, hopes for a vaccine are emerging and the anticipation of lifting restrictions are all part of the daily conversations we are engaging in.

The themes for the 2020 Plenary Council were released recently and it was interesting to note one of the recurring comments was to include women in the leadership of the Church. Here in the Diocese of Maitland-Newcastle we are keen to acknowledge the role women play in their parish, and beyond, via the presentation of the annual Magdalene Award.

Last Friday I enjoyed my day at the annual Chaplains get together as we gathered on Wangi shores with Bishop Bill and Teresa Brierley to share experiences, enjoy each other’s company, partake in some hospitality and celebrate Mass together. There were 11 of us present (just missed out by 1 of the chosen 12 but disciples nonetheless).

I’m not sure how you feel when Christmas is abbreviated to Xmas or when this special time is referred to as the Silly Season? The real meaning of Christmas appears to be commercialised and abbreviated.

When I was given the opportunity to stand in for Teresa I tossed around (in my head) so many ideas. Should I make the article conversational? Should I outline a week in the life of a Family Ministry Coordinator? Or should I throw in some theological statements?
