Professor Massimo Faggioli visits our Diocese

On Tuesday 18 July, Principals, Religious Education Coordinators and Ministry Coordinators welcomed one of the world’s foremost authorities on Vatican II and Pope Francis, Professor Massimo Faggioli, to present a seminar on the implications for those working in Catholic schools.

This very special visit saw Professor Faggioli share his vision, experiences and wisdom with school and CSO staff throughout the day. He is currently working with the Department of Theology and Religious Studies at Villanova University, Pennsylvania.

Fr Gerald O’Collins SJ, arguably Australia’s most eminent theologian, describes the opportunity to learn with Massimo as “the chance of a lifetime”.

Fr O’Collins identifies Faggioli as, “A leading scholar on Vatican II, its aftermath, and the impact of Pope Francis” and that he “enjoys an unsurpassed knowledge of contemporary developments that radically affect the identity and mission of the Church”.

One of Australia’s leading pastoral theologians, Professor Maryanne Confoy RSC aptly expresses her excitement in Professor Faggioli visiting Australia, “Once again BBI is in the forefront of providing key professional development for leaders in Australian Catholic health care and education.

“A skilled theologian and communicator, Faggioli focuses on significant issues faced by educators and health care leaders in Church and society today.”
