LITURGY MATTERS: Eucharist is a verb - reflecting on our understanding and appreciation of what we are doing
Various things, including preparation of liturgies at which Bishop Bill presides and the recent conversations on the Communion Rite at Mass, have led me to reflect on our understanding and appreciation of what we are actually doing when we gather to celebrate Eucharist.
LITURGY MATTERS: Communion Rite Wrap Up - sharing the fruit from three conversations
Saturday was the last of the gatherings the Diocesan Liturgy Council (DLC) hosted to invite people into reflective conversation about the diocesan document, Pastoral Guidance for the Celebration of the Communion Rite at Mass. About a hundred people participated in the three conversations held in Aberdeen, Forster and Newcastle West.
LITURGY MATTERS: Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults (RCIA)
October 19 is going to be a great day. That is the day Nick Wagner and Diana Macalintal, who are Team RCIA, will be here to run a workshop day. We have been in communication with Nick and Diana and they are very excited about spending the day with us. They have developed a program for a full and engaging day that will ground us in the Rite itself: the Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults.
LITURGY MATTERS: There’s nothing better than a good liturgical book!
I don’t know about you, but I love to read. It is one of the ways I nurture my faith and my spirit. Reading is also important in my ongoing formation for ministry. Today, we start a new ‘series’ in which, from time to time, we will recommend some good books in the fields of liturgy and RCIA. This week, enjoy Fr. Andrew Doohan's review of a wonderful book about RCIA. Hopefully it will encourage you to get a copy and immerse yourself in it. So grab a cup of tea or coffee, pull up a comfy chair and a copy of Paul Turner’s book… and enjoy!
LITURGY MATTERS: Shine the Light of Christ
Some weeks ago I wrote about how, as a Church, we might mark the Perpetual Day of Remembrance, which Bishop Bill declared in 2017 as one of the ways we would hold our history of child sexual abuse. This week, I invite you to participate in what the Diocesan Liturgy Council’s Working Party has prepared as our church's response.
LITURGY MATTERS: Connecting through Spirit and Song
Last month we invited readers to consider attending the 4th National Conference of the Australian Pastoral Musicians Network (APMN) which will run from 1-3 October 2019 at the Australian Catholic University (ACU) in Melbourne.
LITURGY MATTERS: An initiating parish
Today’s Liturgy Matters continues to focus on RCIA ahead of our day with Team RCIA on October 19. Last week our focus was mission. This week we ponder initiation. Mission and Initiation are two sides of the same coin. Both are our core business and involve everyone.
LITURGY MATTERS: a missionary heart is the foundation of Christian Initiation
Today’s Liturgy Matters continues to focus on RCIA ahead of our day with Team RCIA on 19 October. We are endeavouring to ‘till the ground’, to get us thinking so we come ready and open to engage with Nick and Diana and each other and so get the most from the day.
