Singleton’s sporting stars shine

Alex Vaughan and Tim Ryan from St Catherine’s Catholic College, Singleton have secured spots in the NSW Combined Catholic Schools (NSWCCC) rugby teams.

After completing a two-day training camp and trial matches in Sydney, the two St Cath’s students managed to impress selectors and to secure a spot in their respective State representative teams.

Alex, who is in Year 12, will play as the starting open-side flanker in the under 18’s side.

Ryan, who is in Year 10, will play in the forwards for the under 16’s side.

Selected for the team last year, Ryan is also a member of the Waratahs Trac Tahs Elite Performance Squad and a regular in the junior gold cup competition.

Both students are seasoned representative players, having previously played in both the Hunter Wildfires and NSW Country sides.

Both boys have their sights set on going further in their rugby careers.

Ryan is looking to make one of the NSW under 16’s Gen Blue sides while Alex is aiming to secure a place in either the Australian Schoolboys or Barbarian team.

The two NSWCCC rugby teams will now complete a training camp at the Academy of Sport in Narrabeen this month before the competing at the National All Schools trials.
