Musical star visits St Mary’s Scone

Nine-time Golden Guitar winning singer-songwriter, Luke O’Shea recently visited students at St Mary’s Primary School, Scone for a musical crash course.

During the first two days of his visit, Luke held song-writing workshops for various year groups, with each group having written a song by the end of their sessions:

  • Kinder and Stage 1 - Radioactive Banana
  • Stage 2 - Scone Cup Glory
  • Stage 3 - Let it Rain (a heartfelt song about the pressures of the drought)

On the final night of Luke’s visit, St Mary’s held a whole school concert where the students got the chance to perform their songs in front of family and community members – it was a real delight to see and hear.

To finish the concert, Luke sang a range of his songs, including many Golden Guitar winners to entertain the crowd.

Throughout the evening, the students also performed five dances to five of Luke’s songs, making for a very interactive and entertaining evening.

Staff, students and parents also danced to other songs throughout the night.

This was a wonderful opportunity for the students to learn the art of song writing with an extremely talented songwriter and then have the opportunity to perform it to an audience.

The whole community was absolutely delighted with the experience, which culminated in a fantastic concert for the whole school community.
