Fundraiser for Rural Fire Service

Students and staff from St Joseph's Primary School, Taree, held a “Git Up Challenge” fundraiser in Week 8 of Term 4. Students sought sponsorship that enabled them to participate in the dance.

Attendees included the local RFS volunteers from Kundle Moto, and the Taree Fire Brigade, along with Senior Constable Ray Slade.

In an incredible effort, the community raised $4798.

The fires have had a devastating effect on the local community and the district was already dry from drought. It was such a scary time and it impacted on many, many families.

Half of the money raised went to the local St Vincent de Paul and the other 50% to the firies. The school was very proud.

Last week at morning assembly, the school was able to present Deacon Vince Ryan, a long-time friend of St Joseph’s and regional president of St Vincent De Paul, and Jacqui Burgess, local St Vinnies president and long-term employee of St Joseph’s, with $2250 cash to help local families affected by the bushfires.

St Joseph’s also had the pleasure of presenting Terry Kitching, the RFS inspector based in Taree, with $2250 cash to assist our 90 local fire brigades.
