Welcome back turns to acknowledgement

Students and staff of St Patrick’s Primary School, Swansea celebrated the post-lockdown return to school on Friday 5 June with a thankyou and some reflection.

The celebration was a wonderful opportunity to thank the students for their hard work and patience throughout the period of learning from home. After a regular morning of lessons in the classrooms, we enjoyed a sausage sizzle lunch and some games.

The much-anticipated tug-o-war competition at the end of the day was a lot of fun, with Maci’s Magic Monkeys eventually edging out Despicable Us in the final.

With parents and carers still unable to be on the school site, it was up to the staff to prepare the children’s lunches. This certainly heightened our appreciation of the valued role our volunteers normally play on such occasions. We are looking forward to welcoming back the volunteers to our school site when the restrictions are relaxed.

The celebration was also an opportunity to raise funds for Caritas’s COVID-19 appeal, which is supporting vulnerable communities in the world that are most susceptible to the effects of coronavirus. The students’ donations totalled $332, which is a tremendous effort from a small school.
