The occasion was marked by a Sunday mass as well as a luncheon where local historian, Pam Jarman, gave a detailed rundown of Harrington’s past, present and future.
Cathy Richmond, Taree-Wingham Parish PPC member and Harrington local said while it was a fantastic time for the community to celebrate such a historical milestone, they also wanted to use this time to give back in a meaningful way.
“In the lead up to our special day we established a raffle and food drive, with all proceeds and food donations going direct to CatholicCare’s Taree Community Kitchen.”
Mrs Richmond said, “The church is here 70 years later because of community. It makes sense that we all rally now not just to celebrate this but do what we can to keep supporting those who may be doing it tough.”
