As I listened to the reading from the Book of Wisdom (6:12-16) at Mass on Sunday night, it caused me to reflect on the many experiences of my previous week, and the week we are now in.

Here we are at the beginning of November, celebrating All Saints Day and All Souls Day starting the month of the Holy Souls. Many of us automatically turn our thoughts to our forebears, the people of faith who have walked beside us, held us, taught us, nurtured us, influenced us, inspired us and shared and shaped our lives.

We are getting to the ‘sticky’ end of Matthew’s gospel in our Sunday readings, where the Pharisees and Sadducees are trying to trap Jesus, and once again this week they ask him about which is the greatest commandment of the Law.

Once again Sunday night has arrived and I have returned home from Mass to take up a place at my desk to craft yet another message. The intention of these weekly messages is an attempt to keep the readers, and hopefully our diocesan community, up to date with what is happening in our diocese, in the wider church and in the local community.
