School Sport Australia Swimming Championships

Three talented students from schools across the Diocese of Maitland-Newcastle have achieved some amazing moments in their sporting careers at the 2019 School Sport Australia Swimming Championships.

Talented swimmer Charlie Hawke from St Francis Xavier’s College, Hamilton represented NSW at this week’s 2019 School Sport Australia Swimming Championships in Melbourne.

Charlie qualified for an amazing 8 events - 50m, 100m and 200m Butterfly, 100m, 200m and 400m Freestyle, and 200m and 400m IM. To represent at this level is a huge achievement in itself but to do this in so many events is incredible. Charlie medalled in all events winning six silver and two bronze medals.

Not only is Charlie a phenomenal talent in the pool, his leadership qualities were recognised with Charlie being selected as one of two Vice Captains in the NSW SSA Swimming Leadership team.

Billy Moody from St Catherine’s Catholic College, Singleton is from a strong family of swimmers and has always performed well at our pathway school events for swimming. Billy’s specialty has always been the Butterfly and his commitment and ability in this event has been rewarded at the SSA championships. Billy qualified for the 50m, 100m, and 200m Butterfly and has placed 1st in each of these events. What a talent!

Charlie and Billy were also in NSW relays that won gold in the Medley Relay and bronze in the Freestyle 4x50 relay.

Logan Heald from St Joseph’s College, Lochinvar represented NSW in the 16 to 19 years 200 IM and 50m breast multi-class events. Logan finished an amazing 4th in the breast and 7th overall in the IM.

The Diocese is extremely proud to have had a trio of swimmers competing at a School Sport Australia event.
