As the readers of this message know, my sitting on a Sunday night to scribe, usually provides me with a time of reflection for the week that has passed, and the one to come. As I listened to the Gospel of John (21:1-19) being proclaimed tonight at the Cathedral, I was struck by Jesus calling his disciples ‘children’.

It is hard to imagine that it is already the third week of Lent. For some communities, on this Sunday, the readings may have been about being repentant and the lesson of the fig tree that did not bear fruit for three years, while for others the readings were chosen from Year A, with the reading of the Samaritan woman at the well.
