TUESDAYS WITH TERESA: Learning humility from the ground up
Once again this message is being written on Sunday evening after spending the day at the Upper Hunter Regional Gathering and then going to Mass at the Cathedral for my parish commitment.
RAY COLLINS: Mr Soane Vahe
Since 2005, the Catholic Schools Office has undertaken study tours of countries such as India, Vietnam and Cambodia. The purpose of those tours was for teachers and CSO staff to experience the work of the Catholic Church in addressing poverty in these countries.
TUESDAYS WITH TERESA: Seeing with the eyes of love and mercy
On Sunday night at the Cathedral, we experienced the joy of being joined by about 20 children for our singing at Mass. Their parents formed part of the congregation along with others who were there with their young families. These children were clearly excited to be there and to learn some of the words and indeed actions to our responses and hymns. Their parents were delighted at the joy which exuded from their children. In my experience children do not have any difficulty with religion or in expressing their faith as something beyond us.
RAY COLLINS: A Vision for Catholic Schools
A number of years ago I was enrolling my eldest daughter into a school and, with all the enrolment material with which we were provided, I was struck by the words of the school’s Vision Statement.
TUESDAYS WITH TERESA: Be with us on our journey
Luke’s Gospel reading (Lk 12:49-53) for the weekend begins with these words:
Jesus said to his disciples: “I have come to bring fire to the earth, and how I wish it were blazing already!”
RAY COLLINS: Feast of The Assumption
One of the special features of World Youth Day in Krakow, Poland, was the Catechesis session held on each of the first three days of this week of joy and celebration.
RAY COLLINS: ASPIRE: Aspirational! Inspirational!!
The fifth production of the Catholic Schools’ ASPIRE Performing Arts program certainly lived up to its aim for the students involved to aspire to higher levels of performance in their various performing arts disciplines.
TUESDAYS WITH TERESA: Breaking open God’s mystery
I imagine many of you have been connecting into the coverage of the Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro. I also realise that there will be differing opinions on the purpose and outcome for this event and certainly the cost to the host country. I am conscious of those who have been displaced from their lives living in the favelas.
