DR MICHAEL SLATTERY: Advent
Advent is the season of waiting; waiting to commemorate Christ’s coming at Christmas. However, this year seems to have been a year of trying to “keep up” with little time to enjoy the pleasures of “waiting” and the dreaming and contemplation that are its luxuries.
TUESDAYS WITH TERESA: Advent calls us to open new horizons for spreading joy
We find ourselves in the second week of Advent and once again we are blessed to have some choir groups and musicians perform in preparation for Christmas.
TUESDAYS WITH TERESA: New beginnings in so many ways
And yet, Lord, you are our Father; we the clay, you the potter, we are all the work of your hand.
DR MICHAEL SLATTERY: Advent and Christmas
“Christmas is a-coming and the ducks are getting fat. Please, put a penny in the old man’s hat; if not a penny, then a halfpenny will do and if not a halfpenny, then God bless you!”
Working towards a slavery-free Christmas
If you ask anyone in the community ‘What is slavery?’ you will receive a variety of answers.
TUESDAYS WITH TERESA: The call to evangelise
I have heard proclaimed the following words a few times over the past weekend:
TUESDAYS WITH TERESA: Sharing and growing wisdom
For those who either attend daily Mass or who read and pray the daily Mass readings, you would be aware that over the past couple of weeks, the first readings have been from the Book of Wisdom.
TUESDAYS WITH TERESA: Sustaining our church amid disruptive technology
Last week I wrote about our honouring Fr Richard Shortall SJ, our Missionary of Mercy, at a farewell. I am now at my desk, having spent the afternoon with about eighty people who gathered to say thank you and to bid him a fond goodbye. We all had a lovely time of story-telling and sharing the wonderful moments of mercy, community and healing, experiences that will live on beyond Fr Richard’s time with us. What a grace and blessing the Year of Mercy and the Missionary of Mercy have been, and will continue to be for us!
